Yes, I said it: “Helping someone pay off a debt is an act of kindness.” Let me convince you with three simple facts.
FACT #1:
Absolutely every CEO on the planet wishes they could pay all their bills. They want money to flow in and flow out; they want to get paid and pay the companies they hired including their vendors, their manufacturers, their service contracts.
FACT #2:
Not being able to pay a company that you owe is stressful and embarrassing. Trying to work in the shadow of unpaid debt is debilitating. Behind a company in debt, you find people who are stressed out. Some have mastered the art of avoiding, distracting, lying, and ignoring anyone who wants to discuss their unpaid bills.
FACT #3:
Paying a company and people you like is rewarding. As long as a company is in business, someone, somewhere, is getting paid! And it is much easier to pay creditors you like.
Many debtors I collect money from thank me. They thank me for my understanding, for showing them respect, for being fair. And they thank me after paying me in full. Because, as I said, “Helping someone pay off a debt is an act of kindness!”
